Sunday saw the first home game of the season for the 2’s against a youthful team from Theale in Reading. On a wonderful day Monty won the toss and batted first on a pitch full of runs. Sadly, those runs were hard to come by from a fairly ordinary batting performance. Openers Sam (2) and PC Hogarth (1) slogged needlessly inside the first 3 overs, Monty’s (10) lack of footwork was exposed, Tan (0) was bowled and Boner (10) lost his patience too and slogged across the line. Lightning Dave (14) was holding the innings together but fell too. Only Conor, taking particular disdain to the bowling of a small child (50), together with E. X. Tras (45) saved our blushes as the lower order Will (8), Leon (5) and Time Traveller (1) went down as well. Saturday player Will (2/21) gave us a promising start a wicket off his first ball and bowled a fine 10 over uninterrupted spell which should have brought more wickets. Time Traveller rolled back the years and was unlucky too but their number 4 looked good. Jeremy Beedle bowled a good spell and Leon (1/17) picked up the number 3. However despite the pressure from the bowlers it was always going to be too little to defend as Theale strolled home by 7 wickets. Best of luck to Boner and the team in Poland next week…do us proud! |
