It was a day of "what could have been" as rain stopped play at tea during the Sunday XI game away against Woking and Horsell. Whilst our fielding did not reach the heights of last week's virtually flawless display against Barnes Common, it was excellent nonetheless. The pick of the bowlers was Mark Smith and Andy Coulter; with positive contributions also from Ajay Sugavanam, Leon Orr, Justin Jarmola, Pete Hall and Ritwik Samsi. David Munroe was good behind the stumps again and Joe Sworder, Amogh Bendre and Conor-James Rea did well in the field. This meant that we held a good batting side to 201 runs. We were looking forward to the chase. However, it rained very heavily over tea and, with puddles forming on the wicket, that was the end of the cricket. We decamped to the bar for the awards ceremony. Man of the Match was unanimously Mark Smith. Andy Coulter created the T.M.P.S.G.A.F.K.A.C.M.S.T.B.M.O.T.D when he cleared the boundary with a bail after bowling out one of their batsmen. The most hotly contested award, the Dick de Jour, was won by Ajay Sugavanam for a typically passionate, but ludicrous, appeal. It was a shame we didn't get to bat, but there's a good feeling about the Sunday side at the moment and I hope we have a similar team for the return fixture in August. |
