We stole an necessary and important win away at Haslemere to stay second in the League. Des (21*) and Mark "E" Smith (8*) were our last pair at 147/9 chasing their 172. We'd batted poorly on a hard bouncy pitch. It is hard to win from 50-5, as we had shown against Shepperton. Doug (26) and Tushar (52) picked up the pieces, the former noodling, the latter caning it with great freedom. One brought two and it came down to the last pair to do the job, which they did chancelessly, creeping to the total and leaving it to Mark to claim all the glory. Mark had previously bowled incisively claiming 5-40 odd off his 11. Brian had done his normal job (3-41 off plenty) and Tushar bowled no wides! Catching was good in parts, extras vastly reduced from last week. Ted (a wicket with his first ball on dayboo) and Pete did a job with the ball but bowling was getting a bit thin. So we really thought their 172 wouldn't have been enough. Nor was it. Just. |
