Yorkshire Tour vs Sandal

Scenes! We've all been there, haven't we, miscounting the number of overs bowled? Done that already myself this tour. But the Putney scorer's schoolboy error and that of his 13 year schoolboy accomplice Charlie (who charges £25 to score a game. 'Ow much!?) came right at the end of a super tight game on a postage stamp of a cricket pitch at Sandal. Handshakes all round as Ben thought he had bowled the last over (for 9) and we'd won by 5 runs defending 213. But no, 1 left apparently and it was down to Dev to bowl it and it was 4 dot 1 to their overseas star (74*) and dot dot dot to their colt. A tie it was, and both sides felt good about it. "Let's have a superover to decide who won!" said nobody. "A tie feels like a win" another piped up. Unbeaten on tour so far. Earlier there had been fine batting against sound bowling, some the fastest we'd faced. Saad (42) took 9 overs to get off the mark but ruffed it out to his credit. Tush (53) played his own game with three enormous sixes. Sarab played with real freedom (through wide mid on!) to up the tempo with his first PCC 50*. Great stuff. GP and Andy H pushed it on, Andy pulling a fine six off the fastest bowler we'll see this year. We were soporific in the field. Attack the ball! Their opener gave an early chance but went on to 64, seemingly scoring fours at will. But wickets started to fall, Saad getting a finger to a return drive to run out the non striker, a smart Hylander stumping, and their youngsters lacked the street smarts and strength to breakout. And our death bowling was pretty good when it mattered. Both times. Many thanks to Sandal for hosting us, a fine and friendly club with a proper catering department! |
