Waking up on a Sunday morning. The sun is out. Thinking balls it’s going to be a long day in the field for another loss. Oh how wrong we were. Arriving at the field to find a rare manicured pitch. Our leader Bone took the great decision of fielding first. Get the midday sun out of the way. The two opening bowlers Beedle and Callum have a chat. Beedle says you take the uphill I don’t like it, to which Callum retorted. “Send me on the uphill I don’t have a hangover” and what a decision that was. The first wicket was claimed by Callum with a caught and bowled to make even Pat Symcox C&B jealous. There were bowling exploits to write home about but it was the batting and the grit and the determination that stood out. They score 90, and in comes the openers! Rohit and Sam open to a very unsatisfactory 16 between them Rohit bowled and Sam Caught. 2 down for 16 In comes Ash and given for 3 off a very reluctant LBW decision by Beedle. (To be honest I went through every excuse not to give it but when you play french cricket you are out boss) Then in strolls the Father, the anchor our only final hope. LETS GO AMOGH He was rocking the crease and stealing singles (said sarcastically) His supporting cast was very average The son Soham was bowled for one, and in strolls Connor a boundary ready to be cleared, but NO he played a forward defensive, we were all shocked on the side not sure he had that in his bag. Although he scored a very impressive 2, of which were singles. Then in comes the captain we got all our hopes on you boss. Bone strides in with a cap and not his ginger protecting fishermans hat. He was blocking as if he was Dawid Malan just rotating the strike between him and dad, then a pie comes, form out the air his eyes light up like a pizza pie and bang goes the stumps BOWLED. Oh god we in trouble now 72 for 8. Lets go Callum striding in hopeshis hangover can subside and can help us to a victory. NOPE a duck bowled. Shit balls this is no good. Rob rolls in and gets a scrappy 5 until caught out. In comes Beedle at 11 with 17 to win and basically 1000 overs. The last parting words as he heads into the middle with the Putney Sunday’s reputation on his shoulders. The only thing in his mind was The wisest captains words ever. “Do not play any shots” As he heads to the middle Amogh says “We only run on balls 5 or 6” To which he listened too. Blocking the balls from fellow Putney bowlers Shipar and Toby. Facing them down with such ferocity as though a nation was on his shoulders and rotating the strike. Getting more and more confident with every cheer from the sideline as his willow met leather straight into the pitch. Amogh was scoring well, knocking them around through the gaps stealing singles and keeping the scoreboard ticking over, slowly but surely this partnership was test match worthy. The climax to an incredible game was building that no one saw coming. We were on 90 game tied, Beedle on strike Shipar coming in, before this, there was a snick behind that went into the pitch to which he thought was out and started walking but was sent back. Here Shipar comes; a ball shaping out ready to be BLOCKED. Bloody hell god dammit Beedle played a shot. A block through covers here comes a loud call from Amogh of YES the only clear call all day. There he goes on a tear down the crease into the arms of Bone. What a win what a game and what a Sunday. We will all be back. T.M.P.S.G.A.F.K.A.C.M.S.T.B.M.O.T.D: Beedle winning run and launching himself into his trusting capos arms, like Patrick Swayze and Jeniffer Gray, in Dirty Dancing. Thanks for coming: Rohit went to a shop, gave them his hard earned money only to buy a bat. Only to go out for 2 AS AN OPENER. Man of the match: Rob Taylor. 3 for 14 of which one, was a snick behind caught by Boner diving forward and catching it 3cm’s off the ground. DDJ: Has to be Toby who tried and failed to break the final wicket partnership. Although changing your flight to arrive 3 hours late and play for the opposition and not claim the victory has to hurt. (www.therapy.com) they got you. |
