Thumping victory with several fine performances. Always a good game at Slinfold with their hard pitch, short boundaries and fast outfield. So for us to restrict them to 170 off 35 overs was quite a thing. Macca, for younger readers a decent bowler in his day, bowled a really good spell 6-3-12-1 with Charlie S 7-2-21-2 in fine support. Paul Hogarth 7-0-18-1 and Brian 6-0-22-0 continued the choking as Slinfold flourished briefly without ever getting away from us. Still, they were confident, their opening bowler remarking that at 150 "they had enough runs" already. Wipe that smirk off your face, young man as Saad (24 off 10) took him for 4444.4 in his first over! All around the ground, all along the floor. Great stuff. BamBam (22) pushed on and Amogh (52*) and Tush (50*) both delivered in their different ways: you barely notice Amogh at the crease, all calm and straight but suddenly a few shots come out and he's delivered a run a ball 50. Tush went boom with 50 off 27 balls with 3 sixes. Barely broke sweat did our champion as we cruised home. The glory was to be all Hensh's in his final game for the club. His solitary over was better than last Saturday's tear-drenched spell (!) and he had put in his usual shift in the field (nice catch, decent run out). So, with the scores level and facing the loopiest of leg spinners, he shimmied down the pitch, missed and the keeper did the rest (slowly). One can only imagine how Bradman felt in his own last innings..... Good bye Mike. We have all enjoyed being your team mate these past 11 years and will miss you. All the best to you and Emma in Melbourne. |
