I fine evening for a friendly T20 game against the Residents XI. Putney lost the toss and went into bat with "giving it a bash" being the order for the day. Against some at times strong bowling Putney moved fairly comfortably to 112-8 off 20 overs with notable scores from Ashish Sahi who blasted 40 off 33 balls and Rich Wilson (22) . Playing a strategy of "just about everyone gets a bowl", The Residents XI never really looked like giving us too much trouble. Then at about 70-3 off about 18 overs, George Martin stepped up and took the ball for an over where he took 4 wickets in 4 balls. His next over he took a 5th to end the game and ended with figures of 5 for 4 off 1.2 overs which must be a Putney record. This included 2 clean bowled, 2 caught and 1 hit-wicket. Now in cricket terms a double-hat-trick is according to Wikipedia 4 wickets in 4 balls. Coming from Wikipedia it could well have been written by a Madagascan bus driver, but if so, let's give George the benefit of the doubt for his double-hat-trick 4 in 4 balls which of course earned him the man-of-match award. |
