Match report: 6.5.15 Doomed to loose the toss following JP's suggestion to Piers that "we should stick them in to field and tire them out on a day like today." Despite this commentators curse a buoyant Putney team took the field on a beautiful day in south London. Fast aggressive bowling from GP and John Simmons had them 3 down for not much. Both moved the ball off the seam and bowled straight putting their top order under pressure. The openers were generally well supported by the boys in the field exemplified by a stunning catch on the back foot by woody "the red squirrel" - the celebrations outshone anything Barcelona would manage later that evening. Sadly for the boys this steeled Mitcham and a big partnership from vvas and knight rubson left Putney realing and ruing many missed chances as standards in the field slipped. Wendy bowled fast and accurately with little reward finishing on54 for 2 which could have been 10 for 4. JP and Macca bowled brilliantly to tie down their ends - Jp finishing 33-2. A charming match tea from Macca was well received by all. The pleasure of a Watermelon on a warm day cannot be underestimated. Chasing 232 Devon was unlucky to be caught and bowled after a hard drive to rogerson. Euan and piers enjoyed some scrumptious inter over chats but both lost wickets to decent bowls from rogerson and kumar. Wendy hit the ball hard and straight for 36 and looked well set until being caught in two minds and caught at mid off off the bowling of Khan. Ricky sadly came and went after looking determined to build an innings. Woody was batting with a bit of class missing from other batsman up the order and finished on 31 after falling as those before him to a catch. Highlights of the innings were undoubtedly the rear guard (a thank you) from Higlet, JP and GeeeePeeee. These three really stuck in and showed real grit to save the game and earn us a draw. We celebrated the draw like s victory after finishing the innings on 160 after a last ball single despite the opposition seeing through our ninja batting exit strategy. A well fought draw. Next week on to bigger things. Man of the match - Wendy "spunk trumpet" Middleton. |
