Sunday 2s vs Barnes Common

What should have been a close and exciting game against local rivals Barnes Commons became an early finish due to a combination of no shows and a batting collapse. When one player fails to show up on a Sunday things are manageable but we had no fewer than 4 last minute drop outs between the two teams which left those who did turn up very unhappy indeed. The Sunday 2's were indebted to the Martin family (father plus twin 10 year olds, one with a broken ankle) for more than making up the numbers. Monty arrived ever so slightly late after running round the Serpentine to find Barnes 6 down for 100 with Jeremy Beedle (2-33) and Iron Orr (3-26) putting in excellent spells. Conor (1-38) and Hogarth (1-47) bowled well but the champagne moment of the innings came when Martin Jr. (1-15) took a wicket with his first ball in Putney colours, dismissing a very good player. Sam (1-22) finished off the innings as Barnes were out for 189. Monty and Hogarth started well until PC (10) was dismissed by a brute of a ball as the pitch began to break up. Monty hit a couple of sixes but was bowled for 33 followed by Sam for 14. Unfortunately bar MOTM Iron Orr (20) the rest of the team failed to make double figures with some very poor batting indeed, Putney well short on 124. A shame to say it but the no shows really did cost us especially during a season where it increasingly hard to get two teams out on a Sunday. Unless demand for Sunday cricket picks up it is looking likely that we will have to go down to one team, which would be a shame given the matches are played in a good spirit and not taken too seriously, and some people will have to miss out each week. So please make yourself available and spread the word to anyone who may be interested in some cricket. Monty |
