This weekend Putney enjoyed a short trip to Barnes Common, and on winning the toss, elected to bat. A solid start on a wet pitch against tidy bowling saw Putney climb to 90 on 10 overs. However, the nightmare Sunday collapse followed, and there was real danger of posting a well below par score. However, opening batsman Rob Close remained at the crease and batted his way calmly to a 50 and was very ably supported by Gus CB who batted well, hitting boundaries and occupying the crease. Rob acclerated massivley, quickly bringing up his century and then going on to make a fantastic 138, enabling us to post 274 with Gus finishing unbeaten on 34. The second half of the game was a credit to Putney Sunday cricket, with every player contributing to an excellent fielding and bowling performance, 8 catches were taken, with zero chances going down (Sorry Brooksey!) Standout spells from Orr, Gus, Jarmola and Dickson. Barnes were eventually skittled well short on 159. Good standard cricket, new players and good fun - Making PCC Great Again! M.O.M - Rob Close for the Ton and three catches. T.M.P.S.G.A.F.K.A.C.M.S.T.B.M.O.T.D - Ockwell for diving catch at long-off to remove the danger man. D.D.J - Alex Warne for chosing an x-small shirt for his guns. |
