I thought we were awesome at home to Woodmansterne. They put us in and we struggled to make progress against an accurate attack. They had proper bowlers. You can tell we are a division higher: good second change bowler, decent left arm spinner etc. But slowly, BamBam and Amogh wrested away the initiative. 13-2 we were sweating, 113-2 not so much. Each played as you'd expect. BamBam all powerful drives and cuts, trade mark six square on the offside, Amogh very classical, keeping the ball on the deck, making the bowlers come to him. But it was BamBam's day: a mighty 154 off only 94 balls. Who is the rockstar keeping him in the second XI? A mystery surely about to be solved. He was great. Amogh made 57 in 33 overs. One would take that any day from one's number three and why, when the B man is caning it, would you blaze away yourself? Just get off strike and enjoy the view from the other end. They put on 210 for the third wicket, surely a record. Tushar thumped the advantage home with 50* off 21 balls! 286 totalled. Woodmansterne had bowled tidily and fielded with conviction. And we did too. We kept the pressure on but they were never going to make ten an over off the last twenty. Which allowed our biomechanical marvel, Piers, to collect four cheap wickets at the end as they folded for 135ao. |
