Saturday 2s vs Woodmansterne

Author: Doug

Match Report
As we have won our first game in six it is obviously safe to write a match report. Lovely set up at Woodmansterne: nice pavilion, great outfield, lovely teas. The pitch was a shocker, though. The “groundsman does not believe in scarifying”, said the Oppo. So the pitch was hard but full of thatch.

We bowled first and Mark Smith found the back of a length. Ball four lifted sharply. Gloved to keeper. Chinny opened the other end and found the same length. The ball tore into the wicket and gave steepling bounce. Mark got one to lift and sconed their helmeted skipper. Ugly stuff. We bowled and caught well (especially Mark W, Phil M not so much) but the pitch did for 4 of the first five. Chinny kept a disciplined line throughout, bringing them to 52-7. Mark sent one bail flying a full 40 yards. Some tail wagging saw them to 126ao, Chinny a fine 16-3-45-7 and Mark 3-37.

Amogh (23) and Doug (23) got a start. Olly Dudman (30) played some thumping drives, Mark W (30*) broke their hearts with some fine drives and a giant six. But the glory of hitting the winning runs fell to Chinny as he nicked a four over slip: a fine day for the boy.
