***WARNING*** This match report is not funny. This match report does not tell tales of a great run chase, or a phenomenal spell of bowling. This match report is a very brief account of a 10 wicket loss. Previous fixtures between Putney and Woodmansterne have been competitive and thoroughly enjoyable. Sunday’s quarter final cup appearance was quite the opposite. Saad lost the toss and we were asked to bat on a slow pitch, with a very wet outfield. Amogh and Hopey fell early, but Rich and Piers combined nicely. They were resilient and batted in difficult conditions to put on a solid 60+ run partnership. The middle order was held together nicely by Charlie, with Saad and Scott making brief but vital cameos. As the innings progressed, the conditions improved and we posted 184 from 45 overs. This was considered slightly below par, but considering the difficult start, it was a respectable score. Our performance in the field though was less than respectable. Woodmansterne’s openers made 185 without loss in 34.3 overs. Our bowling was wayward, with extras at one point set to eclipse the opening batsmen to its 50. We were lacklustre in the field too, with several misfields in the ring costing us boundaries. In short, it was dreadful performance. |
