After the terrible weather throughout May it was a pleasure to start the game against Addington in glorious sunshine. Although this didn’t really appeal to one of the Addington players who managed to get a back spasm after 2 overs and decided that he would spend the next 43 overs sleeping on the sidelines – luckily they had a 12th man! Batting first we managed to post a formidable total of 305 for 5, this was due in the main to an excellent century from Chip (112) ably supported by Fents (35), Jade (37) & Shiraz (38). This total was reached after a steady start with 29 scored off the 1st ten overs and with the wickets in hand we scored 99 off the last ten. So at the half way stage we really should have had this game wrapped up, but we weren’t prepared for the Inzamam look a like smashing our bowling to all parts. Courtesy of 3 dropped chances he bludgeoned his way to 148 with some of the biggest 6’s seen at the ground. Thankfully he was finally caught in the deep by Shiraz of Jonathan Bailey and when Jonathan removed the batsmen in the brown loafers we felt that their 2 main batting threats were gone! Once their main man was gone they couldn’t keep up the required run rate and we one by 23 runs. It was a good batting performance and thankfully our mistakes in the field didn’t cost us as we maintained our 100% league record. I can also confirm that Shiraz has finally used the return element of his plane ticket, although I’m sure he will be back later in the season. JP Man of the Match – Chip Brambley |
