MPSGA 1st XI played I Don’t Like Cricket Club (IDLCC) on Sunday...here are the facts... IDLCC are bunch of guys brought together by a cricketing podcast (whatever that is?) Putney had a 2 & 0 winning record against them They had a mix of cricketing abilities It was supposed to be a beautiful sunny day that the BBC had claimed would be 20 degrees It was neither Brook, the self styled, Great captain had a balanced team that unusually boasted a strong batting line up The now traditional Wibberly/Hannaprod opening pairing was supplemented by possibly the strongest looking batting middle order 'engine room' this writer has seen in 10 years.. CROSS, JAMOLA, THE TERRIBLE, KIDSON, GCB...pretty damn strong looking I think you’ll agree...no chance of a middle order collapse today! Brook had lots of bowling options to play with We should win Brook, predictably lost the toss and we batted under leaden skies and low cloud.. The oppos opening pairing were accurate and rapid Hanna and Wibbs fell cheaply Cross and Jarmola didn’t really get the concept of running between the wicket and calling Rob ran two runs but got none as Jamola didn’t move from the crease, sending Rob careering back If anyone could field one or both of them will be out Fortunately no one could field Cricket was the real loser Another running mix up caused Jamola to hurts his shoulder He actually dived for his ground ‘I am fine, I will carry on batting’ he is a brave boy... He was out next ball for a globe.. The Terrible wasn’t and together with Cross put an a great partnership However the bowling had literally gone from the sublime to the ridiculous The first and second change could not bowl One over went for 33 and included at least 6 no balls and 6 wides Umpire Wibberly kept giving wides as dead balls...’because the opposes skipper told him too’ Those runs could be vital at the end of the game....someone said They were... ‘Extras' improved its batting average..alot We seemed so secure I went off to Calowries for my now customary Sunday lunch of a chicken and bacon wrap I asked Brooksy if he wanted anything whilst I was there He wanted latte When I got back with his latte we'd had a middle order collapse! I had to horse my wrap down... or wolf my horse... never really sure which one it is... Ison made a nice 30 and GCB a steady 16, nurdling it around... which is exactly what JJ said he wouldn’t do... Hanna made a comment about 3 passing girl guides...I made a note to check his CRB Brook ran himself out...(although he may alter this as he is the editor and may suggest it was someone else’s fault..loser) Smith got a golden We bowled... Hogarth dropped a dolly Brook picked up a wicket Their batters didn’t look all that Smith and Hogarth combined to run out the slowest man in the world Their batsmen suddenly got a lot better A lot better No, I mean a lot lot better... Smiths first spell was accurate His second wasn’t Brook hurt his arm batting, but still bowled well, picking up two Ison produced a miserly spell with no reward Hogarth got smashed for 16 in an over GCB and Kidson supplemented the bowling We were going to win easily Actually they started to look good The had 1 and half gun batsmen..at least Oh..it’s OK we got their best batsmen out to a Wibberly wonder catch in the deep (The wonder being that the old boy could see the ball from that distance!) We are going to win Wait..it’s getting pretty close Shit, we are going to lose Damn we lost.. Game over. Everyone stood outside the clubhouse drinking (soon to be rare) Thunderbitch and beer I couldn’t get out of bed on Monday MoM - Cross 50 DDJ - Hanna-girl guide harassment issues TMPSGAFKACMSTBMOTD - Should have been the dog that pissed on the stumps, however due to no show from the hound, it was the JJ/RC run out debacle Thanks for coming - Jarmola |
