The sun finally shone and the skipper finally won the toss. The pitch looked a little soft so we decided to bowl, hoping teh pitch would dry out and play better in the afternoon. After a solid opening partnership of 40 odd Nick Jarrett (2/25) got the breakthrough and then another wicket soon after. We then managed to drop a series od catches before Eddie McVarish (2/50) and Racchitt Khanna (1/24) took 3 quick wickets between them and we had Beddington Village 132/5 and we felt like we were on top. A couple more dropped catches cost us and their batmen made us pay making 40 odd each and taking their total to 228/5. 230 is a chasable target and we were confident that if we had a few partnerships we could get the runs. Unfortunately partnerships didn't materialise and we lost regular wickets everytime we looked like we might make a challenge. We kept up with the required rate throughout our innings but ran out of steam at 190. The shining light of the batting was Travis Vincent who made a determined 58 and was followed by a string of 20's and single digit innings from the rest of us. A disappointing result as we again let ourselves down in the field and again the positive was the bowlers creating chances. If we can take these chances we will make our job much easier of winning games. Well done guys, you stuck at it all the way and I know it's only a matter of time before that next win comes along. |
