This game against Morden was a potential season changer for the Putney 2’s as a loss would see us drop towards to bottom of the table and a win would help us stay in the mix within the middle of the table. We won the toss and again elected to utilise the new ball on a pitch that had a little bit of life in it early. Our opening bowlers Adil (0/25) and Danish (1/14) bowled well and had Morden under pressure from the start. Racchitt (1/35) and Mallick (4/33) kept the pressure on and had us on top. Morden then put together a good partnership in the middle stages before we clawed back towards the end with Scott (3/18) being the main cause of our fight back. We managed to restrict Morden to 181 all out on a pretty good pitch. The difference in this match was a much better fielding effort and that we only grassed one catch, which the skipper will take responsibility for. Our run chase didn’t start all that well, losing our 1st wicket at the end of the first over. Travis (45) looked to play himself in and started grinding away for a very important innings. Batting partners came and went, and at one stage we were 5/84 and struggling a bit. The positive note was that we were always up with the run rate and if we could build a couple of partnerships we were still in with a shout. Mallick (29) hung around for a long time and batted well with Racchitt (27) edging us closer to victory. We then had a mini collapse as we lost 3 wickets for 4 runs and we were again in trouble at 8/138. Eddie McVarish (25*) and Danish (16*) survived and then played some excellent strokes to bring us home with five overs to spare. This was a great result for us and it was a great team effort with bat and ball. Man of the match was Mallick for his 4 wickets and important knock of 29. Well done guys, great effort. |
