On another cold summers day we went out to bat with a new look batting line up. The entire top 6 from the week before were not available so the opportunity was there for the taking. We had a promising start with Alec (10) playing to cracking shots for 4 before being decived and feathering one to the keeper. Wickets cme and went with the only real partnership between Nick (40) and Burkey (11) of 44. The last 5 batsmen were cleaned up by their spinner who took (5/25) and we finished with a below par score of 131. Again some tight bowling was let down by a bad ball an over or a shot just wide of a fielder that raced to the boundary. Battersea had reached 55 without loss and without too much trouble. A change of bowling and a change of luck and within the space of a couple of overs we had taken 5 wickets for 7 runs. We now believed we had a shot. When defending a small total everything has to go your way and unfortunately on this occasion the addition of another wicket with only 2 further runs scored should have come our way. Racchitt (5/31) was the unlucky bowler and the lucky batsman went on to make 30. This changed the momentum back to Battersea and although we got another coup;le of wickets we were always struggling woth our lack of runs. Ben (3/33) along with Racchitt gave us a sniff but in the end Battersea managed to overcome their collapse and get the points. Another good bowling performance and another average batting performance. Our catching was good and fielding tight. We just need to work on building some partnerships when batting and we will give most opposition a god run for their money. |
