On a bright sunny day in South London, the Putney seconds travelled to the home of the Surrey Seamers. The Seamers won the toss and elected to bat and after a tight over each from Brook and Beslee, Brook angled one across their no.2 and Wibberley plucked the edge out of the air one handed high to his left at 2nd slip. Putney had the breakthrough and buoyed by this great start continued to keep it tight and Beslee got his man in the 8th over tempting him into driving in the air for Day to take a tidy catch at extra cover. 33-2. Numbers 3 and 4 then started to bed in and saw off the openers leaving Khanna and Crookes to come on. After a punishing first over on a small pitch Khanna came back well and with the second ball of his next over the batsman tried to clip it fine down the leg side but didn’t get enough on it and Philipps took it one handed diving to his left behind the stumps. 74-3. Racchitt wasn't finished there however and the first ball of his next over had their no.4 trapped leg before. The door seemed half open but the Seamer's 5&6 were having none of it and proceeded along steadily to reach the half way drinks break with the score at 121-4. The Ribena seemed to revitalise Putney however and 4 tight overs later Crookes made the breakthrough with a fine nick through to the keeper dismissing their top scorer for 40. Two balls later he completed the breakthrough using his variation and the full with of the strip to have no.5 caught and bowled with without doubt his worst ball of the match leaving the Seamers reeling on 139-6. Crookes and Khanna continued to trouble the batsmen and two more wickets for Crookes and one for Khanna in the next few overs left them on 161-9 after 30. The time was right to bring back the openers and Brook duly stepped up and bowled the last man with the first ball of his second over back to finish off the seamers for 177 off just 32.1 overs. Well refreshed after a delicious tea the Seamers took the field and true to their name opened up with two spinners. Putney raced to 14 off the first 2 before Lilja nicked it behind and then Wibberley was caught and bowled next over. 15-2 off 4. Travis then knocked a quick fire 9 before looking for his 3rd 4 in the over and was bowled trying to hoick it over cow corner to leave Putney struggling at 29-3 off 8. Day however was still firmly dug in at the other end and found a partner in Woody and the two of them put on 33 off 15 overs before with 19 runs to his name Woody had a moment off madness and was run out to direct hit off a wide to leave the equation at 118 required off 21. In came Ellerbeck and knocked off 10 before being bowled. Philipps quickly followed first ball to a pea shooter and was followed by Beslee two balls later and Khanna quickly after. Around all this chaos Day was still bedded in at the other end before he received another ball that pitched short of a length and shot through along the ground bowling him for a stubborn 25 off 28 overs. All that remained was for Brook to be c&b and the game was over, a sorry 103 all out with Putney feeling perhaps a little aggrieved that a rapidly wearing pitch might have robbed them of the opportunity to take all 20 points.
