The Sundays 2s took on Sheen Park with the fixture being the last match for skipper Shak. Having won the toss, Sheen Park chose to bat and were given a solid start by the openers who put on 60 run of 15 overs broken by debutant Hilal. Some good bowling and fielding restricted Sheen to 130 for 4 off 30 overs but wayward bowling over the next 10 overs resulted in the Sheen Parks 5 and 6 batsmen putting on 110 runs of the last 10 overs. Medium pacer and club photographer Brian being the pick of the bowling bagging 2 wickets for 12 runs of 4 overs. Set a target of 245 to chase off 40 overs, Putney lost quick wickets of skipper Shak and no 3 batsmen Stolp. However, opener Stuart showed application and patience (virtues which Shak and Stolp are hoping to learn) steadily adding runs! Cometh the hour, cometh the men….. the departure of Stolp brought Mitch to the crease who along with opener Stuart put on a 50 run partnership followed by a 100 run partnership with emerging talent Woody. Both batsmen played effortless strokes on a lighting fast outfield and got Putney to within 70 runs of the target with 10 overs left. Mitch was given LBW at 91 by PCC player umpire Nick Lilja reflecting PCC s culture of fair play under all circumstances. Putney legend Rachitt scored a brisk 17 with Mallick promoted ahead of vice skipper Ash, scoring a fluent 26* hitting a 6 in the 38th over to win the match for Putney. Young Woody remained unbeated on 68* walking off the field a proud man. A professional run chase and good sportsmanship displayed by PCC being a fitting farewell for skipper Shak. The key learning from this match to take into future games is that if you are not Chris Gayle please dont bat like him as you will get out very quickly! |
