Sunday 2s vs Dulwich

This was the game to test the Sunday 2’s who had lost only 2 matches this season. After winning the toss, Putney elected to bowl on a sticky but drying wicket. Stephen Wilcox was the pick of the Putney bowlers with a fine 8 over spell pinning the top order down and achieving 1-28. The oppo had an extremely strong side and other mentions go to Jon White 2-71 who managed to pick up two late wickets supported by Chris Henson 1-66, Sammy Tendulkar 0-83 and Neil Whyte 0-56. Putney’s fielding was sharp with Tim Beslee being instrumental in a run out and Sammy Tendulkar taking a very nonchalant one-handed catch at long-on. This left Putney chasing a distant 324. Putney's openers started with Doug Shaw looking solid before retiring on 24 after a nasty injury when a bouncer hit him in the mouth. Ash tried to hold the innings together scoring 22 and Tim Beslee hit a rapid-fire 18. Putney’s middle and lower order got some good batting practise against the Dulwich overseas Afghan and Pakistani quicks. Despite the oppo giving us a lot of chances through dropped catches we simply were out-powered by what appeared to be a Saturday 1’s team and were all out for 100. One to be forgotten about! No shame in defeat though – we were tested and came up short. Back to the nets. Onward and upwards once again! |
