Saturday 2s vs Lingfield

We ended our league season in lame-o fashion down on the Common on Saturday with a consecutive defeat to Lingfield. We won the toss and put them in and even though the reunited pair of Murad and Lincoln kept things tight, not much went to hand and they reached 114-1. Lincoln (2-62) put in a 16 over spell and Tony Fenton threatened to mop up with 3-22 off 4. Max Taylor bowled with good wheels and I'll admit to surprise at their declaration at 211-5. Matt Atkins fretted to get off the mark before driving to extra, Murad holed out pulling, Rob Paul struck five crisp boundaries in his 20 before going back and missing a straight one. Tony Fenton batted gamely for his 38. The tail started at seven and so we were always missing some batting firepower as we subsided to 136ao off 35 overs. Lingfield, promoted, were worthy winners. We did well to be in contention until the penultimate game of the season but we have lost to all the teams above us as we missed a bit of quality. I bet they did not drop as many catches as we did! Many thanks to Eddie for the ground and to all those who played for the two's this year. Thanks for not crying off, not whinging if you weren't selected, to Ben for a great website and to Matt for his helpful and advice as vice! A fuller season review is promised once the dust settles. |
