The game was reduced to 35 overs due to the opposition not turning up until about 2.30, and Putney fielded. Tight bowling from Chris Henson (7-2-31-0) and an excellent spell from Stephen Wilcock (7-0-33-3) kept the run rate down but unfortunately Putney suffered when one of their middle order batsmen came in and hit a rapid-fire 106. M.o.t.M. Vamsi (7-0-46-5) had an outstanding performance, taking the lower order out with Shivan Hutton and Bertie Probyn lending a hand and each taking a wicket apiece. Once again fielding fluctuated between superb and awful with approx 40 runs given away in the field. Coming out to bat after tea, a slow start and solid opposition bowling held the run rate down. After the opening bowlers had finished, there were solid scores from Max Sugden (34 – including a square cut 6), Vamsi (39) and Shivan Hutton (41) but pick of the bunch was Rich Wilson’s rapid 78 although it ultimately was too little too late and Putney ended up falling 30 runs short after running out of overs. |
