Let's hope we don't have many more games like this. We were our normal, consistent selves and they batted like children, in the main. Macca (1-14) put in a wonderful opening spell against their main guy and made him play at every ball whilst only allowing him a single scoring shot in several overs. The pressure built. Dez got picked off by their other opener so David Higson came on early and bowled quick for his 3-25. JP's arm ball ("it hit something in the pitch") bowled the #3 for 44. He was looking real good. But they subsided way too easy, their heads were empty, there was no substance, no depth, three fellers in double figures, one of whom was "Mr Extras". Saad (4-11) bowled full and straight and his accuracy was too much for their limited patience. We still had time for Wibbers to drop a catch at point easier than Macca's last week. The fairground music serenaded us as we batted, bathed in the perfume of diesel fumes. Wibbers (26) took the game away from them in the early overs but Matt fell first ball (always nice when the wife and kids come to watch). Abhi (35*) saw us home easy. Too easy. Teas were good though..... Just a note on selection. It was real hard this week and we can only pick 11. We've had 19 players in the league so far, 35 last season. So, if you don't make the team **please stay involved** because it is a real squad effort to get promoted: play Sunday as several are (two friendlies and a cup game today, 2/6) or come to watch, score or umpire. We're top today and we need all hands to go up. |
